Papal States 1848-R scudo Dav-194
This specimen was lot 2683 in Sincona sale 77 (Zurich, May 2022), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$304 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALY | Vatican - Church State. Pius IX. 1846-1878. Scudo 1848.Anno II R, Roma. Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1847 geändert. Seltene Variante. Fast vorzüglich. (Italy, Papal States, Pius IX, 1846-78, scudo of 1848, year II, Rome mint, 1848/7 overdate. Rare variety, About extremely fine.)"
This type was struck at Rome and Bologna 1846-50 and 1853-56. Issues of 1850 and later deleted the engraver's name below the bust.
