Heritage sale 3064, lot 33207
Guatemala H3064-33207r.jpg

This specimen was lot 33207 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "Central American Republic 8 Reales 1846 NG-A AU Details (Surface Hairlines) NGC, Guatemala City mint. Upon close inspection, fine hairlines reveal prior cleaning, though the rich silver toning makes these hard to see with the naked eye." This type was struck in Guatemala 1824-47 and in Costa Rica in 1831. The type is listed under the Central American Republic. This federation was an attempt to unite all the former Spanish provinces of Central America into one country but collapsed amid recrimination and civil war.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.07 g, .903 silver, .786 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM 4.
