Sincona sale 43, lot 4118

This specimen was lot 4118 in Sincona sale 43 (Zurich, October 2017), where it sold for 200 CHF (about US$239 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND, Appenzell Ausserrhoden, Batzen 1808. Vorzüglich-FDC. (canton of Appenzell, outer Rhoden, batzen of 1808. Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1808 and 1816. Forty batzen = four franken = one thaler and ten rappen = one batzen.

Recorded mintage: 266,000.

Specification: billon, this specimen 2.41 g.
