Künker sale 264, lot 3299

This specimen was lot 3299 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €5,500 (about US$7,105 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BERN Stadt. Dukat 1600. Adler über Stadtwappen//Stehender heiliger Vinzenz mit Buch und Palme. GOLD. RR Sehr attraktives Exemplar mit hübscher Goldpatina, fast vorzüglich. (city of Bern, ducat of 1600. Obverse: eagle over city arms; reverse: St. Vincent stands with book and palm frond. Rare, attractive example with nice patina, choice extremely fine.)"

This rare one year type is accompanied by a double ducat (Fr-95) and half ducat (Fr-97). The next gold issue was in 1658 (Fr-123).
