Scotland 1560 testoon
This specimen was lot 39637 in Stack's Bowers Winter sale (Baltimore, November 2015), where it sold for $881.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "SCOTLAND. Testoon, 1560. Francis & Mary (Second Period, 1558-60). NGC VF-25. Crown over Royal Shield, with the shield divided into Scottish and French Arms, a cross to the left, a saltire to the right; Reverse: Crown over 'FM' monogram. One minor flan crack at 11 o'clock, otherwise of excellent manufacture. Tone confined to the protected areas of the devices, with fully original surfaces. An outstanding example of the issue struck the year of Francis' death in 1560 at the age of 16."
