from the Stack's Bowers 2017 ANA sale, lot 22398
Saxe-Weimar SB817-22398r.jpg

This specimen was lot 22398 in Stack's Bowers ANA Auction (Denver, CO, August 2017), where it sold for $399.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxe-Old-Weimar. Taler, 1575. Friedrich Wilhelm I and Johann III (1573-1605). PCGS EF-45 Secure Holder. Well struck with moderate wear and deep old tone." This particular version of Saxe-Weimar would lapse on the duke's death in 1605. It would be revived several times before World War One wiped away all the German principalities. This type of 1574-78 is scarce but not rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: MB-29; Dav-9766.
