United States 2007 10 dollars KM-283
This specimen was lot 7278 in Stack's Bowers August 2016 Baltimore auction, where it sold for $129.25. The lot description noted, "2007 Tenth-Ounce Platinum Eagle. Early Releases. MS-70 (NGC)." The mint began striking and selling platinum bullion coins in 1997. One, half, quarter and tenth ounce versions were offered; the tenth ounce is shown here. Sales were respectable but never more than a fraction of the sales of the gold eagle bullion coins. The proofs (KM 414) feature a different reverse than the "business" strikes. This is a common date.
Recorded Mintage: 13,003 from Philadelphia (shwon here) plus 5,556 "burnished" plus 8,176 proofs (mintmark "W").
Specification: 3.10 g, 0.999 fine platinum, 17 mm diameter. Designed and engraved by John Mercanti.
