Brazil 1940 300 reis

Shown is a copper-nickel 300 réis of the United States of Brazil. This is the regular issue, struck 1938-42. Commemorative 300 réis were issued in the 1930's which, not surprisingly, are much easier to find in nice condition than this type. The 300 réis was abolished in 1942 with the reform of the coinage in that year. The portrait is of Getulio Vargas, president and dictator of Brazil until 1945.

Recorded mintage: 8,124,000.
