This specimen was lot 20275 in Ponterio sale 161 (Chicago, August 2011), where it sold for $14,950. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA. Florin, 1934. Victoria & Melbourne Proof Florin. Centennial of Victoria and Melbourne. A similar example graded NGC PF-62 realized $14,950 in Goldberg's May 2007 sale. VERY RARE. NGC PROOF-62." The regular issue is scarce but the proof shown here is rare. Australia maintained the sterling silver standard until 1945, years after Great Britain had debased her coins to 0.500 fine.
