Sincona sale 78, lot 455

This specimen was lot 455 in Sincona sale 78 (Zurich, October 2022), where it sold for 2,200 CHF (about US$240 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted, "RUSSIA | Russian Empire and Federation | Nicholas I. 1825-1855, 10 Groszy Polski 1832, Warsaw Mint, KG. Novodel. Extremely rare. 25 roubles according to Ilyin. Good extremely fine." Despite Russian promises of autonomy, the czar found the Poles to be the most obstreperous of all his subjects. Major rebellions occurred in 1831 and 1863. The regular issue ten groszy (KM C113) was struck 1826-31. This is probably KM Pn179, a rare and unpriced novodel (a restrike pattern).

Recorded mintage: unknown but few.

Specification: 2.90 g, 0.192 fine silver, 19 mm diameter, this specimen 2.35 g.
