Sincona sale 88, lot 97

This specimen was lot 97 in Sincona sale 88 (Zurich, May 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Afsharid Dynasty, Shahrokh, viceroy at Herat, 1151-1160 AH (1739-1747). Rupi 1155 AH (1743), Herat Mint. Äusserst selten, Sehr schön; Extremely rare. Very fine. Purchased from A. Saeedi, London, in 1986."

This type was struck at Herat in Afghanistan AH 1153-1159 while Shahrokh was viceroy for his grandfather Nader Shah. Shahrokh survived the immediate turmoil after Nader's assassination and sat on the throne three times, AH 1161-63, AH 1163-66 and AH 1168-1210. He was finally murdered in 1796 after the Qajar takeover.
