Sincona sale 47, lot 2821

This specimen was lot 2821 in Sincona sale 47 (Zurich, May 2018), where it sold for 1,600 CHF (about US$1,920 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND, Grisons, Haldenstein, Herrschaft, Thomas von Salis, 1737-1783. Albus 1752, Haldenstein. Selten. FDC. (lordship of Haldenstein, Thomas of Salis, 1737-83, albus of 1752, Haldenstein mint. Rare, Uncirculated.)"

We believe this rare type was equal to four kreuzer. Haldenstein is today a village of less than a thousand people and two and a half centuries ago can not have numbered more than a few hundred.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: billon, this specimen 1.27 g.

Catalog reference: D.T. 930, HMZ 2-561a, KM 100.
