Costa Rica 1999 100 colones rev DSLR.jpg

This specimen exemplifies the dreadful state of modern coin design. The drab, low relief design, accentuated by the dull material, failed to inspire any but the most devoted collectors of Central American coins. This type was struck in Brazil in 1999. Slightly different types were issued in 1995 (KM 230), 1997-98 (KM 230a) and 2000 (KM 240).

Recorded mintage: 30,000,000.

Specification: 9 g, brass, 29.5 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 230a.1.
