Sincona sale 88, lot 50

This specimen was lot 50 in Sincona sale 88 (Zurich, May 2024), where it sold for 575 CHF (about US$760 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Hotak Dynasty, Azad Khan, 1163-1170 AH (1750-1757). Rupi 1170 AH (1757), Kashan Mint. Selten, Gutes vorzüglich, Leicht gereinigt; Rare. Good extremely fine. Lightly cleaned. Purchased from Morton & Eden, London 2011."

Wikipedia comments, "The Hotak dynasty (Pashto: د هوتکيانو ټولواکمني Persian: امپراتوری هوتکیان) was an Afghan monarchy founded by Ghilji Pashtuns that briefly ruled portions of Iran and Afghanistan during the 1720s. It was established in April 1709 by Mirwais Hotak, who led a successful rebellion against the declining Persian Safavid empire." This rupi was struck at Isfahan, Kashan and Kirman. While it is listed under Iran, most of the Hotak issues are found in the SCWC under Afghanistan.
