Hong Kong 1984 1000 dollars
This specimen was lot 6341 in Künker sale 336 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €700 (about US$916 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"HONG KONG, Elizabeth II, 1952-1997. 1.000 Dollars 1984. Jahr der Ratte. 14,65 g Feingold. GOLD. Stempelglanz. (Hong Kong, Elizabeth II, 1952-97, one thousand dollars of 1984, Year of the Rat. Uncirculated.)"
This one, the ninth in the series, honors the year of the Rat. British coinage for Hong Kong ceased in 1997 when the island was returned to China. China itself has issued dozens of different NCLT's featuring the Chinese zodiac but this series may be the first.
