Sincona sale 90, lot 1034

This specimen was lot 1034 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 18,000 CHF (about US$23,785 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Hatzfeld, Grafschaft, Sebastian I. von Hatzfeld-Wildenburg-Krottorf, 1569-1630. Dukat 1597 (geprägt 1666 unter Graf Hermann, 1658-1677), Nürnberg. Mit Titel Rudolfs II. Stempelschneider Chr. Moller. RVDOLPH : II : D : G : R : I : S : A : / • SEBAS : A : HATzFELDT : NO : D . I . WILD : 7 Brustbild von vorn mit Spitzenkragen. Rv. HONOS ET VIRTVS Die Personifikationen von Ehre (Honos) und Tapferkeit (Virtus) stehen sich gegenüber und sind durch eine Kette mit dem gekrönten Hatzfelder Wappenschild verbunden, unten 1597 •. Von grösster Seltenheit. Gutes vorzüglich. Leicht gewellt. (Germany, county of Hatzfeld, Sebastian I of Hatzfeld-Wildenburg-Krottorf, 1569-1630, ducat of 1597 (actually struck in 1666), Nuremberg mint, in the name of Rudolf II. Obverse: bust facing with pointed collar; reverse: Honor and Strength hold a chain supporting the Hatzfeld arms, date below. Of the highest rarity, Good extremely fine, Slightly wavy flan.)"

This coin seems to be the only issue of this prince. The town, now in the state of Hesse, has a population of about 3,000.
