Iran AH 1171 rupi KM-504.1
This specimen was lot 136 in Sincona sale 88 (Zurich, May 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"IRAN, Qajar Dynasty, Mohammad Hasan Khan, 1163-1172 AH (1750-1759). Rupi 1171 AH (1758), Isfahan Mint. Selten, Gutes sehr schön, Leicht gereinigt; Rare. Good very fine. Lightly cleaned. Purchased from M. Saffar, London, in 2008."
Mohammad Hasan Khan is considered the founder of the Qajar dynasty altho he ruled only the region immediately south of the Caspian Sea. The Zands dominated most of central Iran while Azad Khan lurked in Azerbaijan and the Durranis roamed Afghanistan. Most of his coins were issued in the name of Isma'il III; this type was struck at Isfahan (shown here), Kashan, Mazandaran, Qazvin, Rasht and Tabriz.
