Papal States (1550-55) scudo d'oro Fr-69

This scudo d'oro was struck for Julius III (1550-55). It is the most common gold coin of his reign but twice the price of a scudo d'oro of Paul III, his predecessor. The scudo d'oro (gold shield) was about 4% lighter than the ducat or zecchino. Berman notes this as the most common of the three listed for this reign.
