Sincona sale 83, lot 4788

This specimen was lot 4788 in Sincona sale 83 (Zurich, May 2023), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND Geneva, 2 Quarts (1/2 Sol oder 6 Deniers) 1702, Genf. Silberabschlag. Sehr selten. Vorzüglich. Kratzer auf Vorderseite (city of Geneva, two quarts or six deniers of 1702, Geneva mint, struck in silver. Very rare, Extremely fine, Scratches on obverse)." This type was struck in billon, silver or gold in 1702, 1709 and 1715. The billon issue is fairly common, the silver scarce and the gold rare. This denomination was struck fairly steadily thru the eighteenth century until 1788.
