Sweden 1867-ST 25 ore
This specimen was lot 32252 in Heritage sale 3076 (Long Beach, CA, September 2019), where it Sold for $1,050. The catalog description[1] noted, "Sweden: Carl XV Proof 25 Ore 1867/6-ST PR66 Cameo NGC, Obv. Head of Carl XV right. Rev. Crowned date and value in wreath. This piece seems to be the 1867/6 overdate variety, despite not being noted as such on the holder. Well struck, frosted devices, with deeply mirrored fields. Bright white surfaces, with hints of russet toning around the obverse periphery. Extremely rare in Proof and the only example certified by NGC and PCGS combined." This type was struck 1862-67 and 1871. The present dynasty is descended from Charles Bernadotte, one of Napoleon's generals who defected to Sweden. Collecting Swedish coins is complicated by the multiple currency reforms the country underwent during the period.
