Steve Album Auction 52, lot 756

This specimen was lot 756 in Steve Album Auction 52 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2025), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "BENGAL PRESIDENCY: AR 1/8 rupee, Muhammadabad Benares, year 49, daroga mark N, NGC graded MS61, R." This type was struck with a frozen date. While the Mughal Empire lasted, the British in Bengal were careful to strike coinage in the emperor's name. This issue has a regnal year but no AH date; others are known dated AH 1221, 1225 and 1226.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.46 g, silver.

Catalog reference: KM-33, Stv-7.133. Prid-283.
