The first specimen was lot 1655 in Sincona sale 47 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 550 CHF (about US$660 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"FRANKREICH, Konigreich, Louis XIV. 1643-1715. Ecu au buste juvénile 1671, Rennes. Gutes sehr schön. Hübsche Patina. Leicht justiert. (kingdom of France, Louis XIV, 1643-1715, écu of the juvenile bust of 1671, Rennes mint. Good very fine, Attractive patina, Minor adjustment marks.)"
This écu au buste juvénile was struck at Rennes 1663-77. Small bust (Dr/4 № 447) or large bust (Dr/4 № 449, slightly scarcer) varieties exist.
Recorded mintage: 294,617[2], a somewhat better date.
Specification: 27.45 g, 0.917 fine, plain edge, 38-41 mm diameter, designed by Norbert Roëttiers, the first specimen 27.15 g.
