This specimen was lot 4369 in Sincona sale 9 (Zürich, October 2012), where it sold for 7000 CHF (about US$8,854 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"FRANKREICH Troisième Republique, 1871-1940. 50 Francs 1900, Paris. Äußerst seltener Jahrgang. Nur 200 Exemplare geprägt. Vorzüglich. (France, third republic, 1871-1940, fifty francs of 1900, Paris mint. Extremely rare date, extremely fine.)"
This type was struck 1878-1904. Of the 26,945 struck of this rare type, 20,250 are dated 1904, but even the 1904's are expensive. Most survivors are bagmarked AU.
