In 1993, after the British had agreed to return Hong Kong to China, the queen's portrait was removed from Hong Kong coinage and a new series issued. Ten, twenty, fifty cents and one, two, five and ten dollars were issued featuring the bauhinia flower. This type was struck 1993-98 and is common. In 1997, the British left Hong Kong and China now administers it. In 1997, a Chinese minted fifty cents (KM 74) featuring an ox was also issued.
Recorded mintage: unknown but common.
