This specimen was lot 33204 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $108,000. The catalog description[1] noted, "Stunning Kilogram Sized Gold Issue, GREAT BRITAIN. Gold 1000 Pounds, 2020. Llantrisant Mint. Queen's Beasts, White Horse of Hanover. Elizabeth II. SUPERB GEM PROOF. Truly breathtaking a remarkable in this large and impressive format, the present fauna-related specimen provides an intense cameo nature and bold brilliance, along with a stunningly alluring overall appearance throughout. The Queen's Beast Series was produced in honor of 10 Heraldic statues that represent the Genealogy of Queen Elizabeth II. The statues were placed in an Annex of Westminster Abbey for the Queen's coronation in 1953, with each statue weighing approximately 700 Pounds and being 6 Feet tall. The statues now reside in the Canadian Museum of History in Quebec. This example features the Red Dragon of Wales [sic], a historic symbol of Wales mentioned in early Welsh chronicles. This association with Wales was firmly established by Owen Tudor, grandfather of Henry VII." This coin is listed in Numista as dated 2021 altho it is clearly dated 2020. The Friedberg number listed here applied to the entire series of the Queen's Beasts, not just this design.
