Stephen Album sale 47, lot 2659

This specimen was lot 2659 in Stephen Album sale 47 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN: Gustaf III, 1771-1792, AR 1/3 riksdaler, 1779, initials OL, a few adjustment marks near and through date, EF, ex Joe Sedillot Collection." This denomination was introduced in 1776 to replace the two mark last minted in 1754. It must have been a success, as this type was struck 1778-89 in large numbers and is common today.

Recorded mintage: 228,000, a common date.

Specification: 9.75 g, 0.878 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-525, Cr-67a.
