This specimen was lot 20428 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "NORWAY. Krone, 1892. Kongsberg Mint. Oscar II. PCGS AU-55 Gold Shield. Quite deeply toned and engaging, this alluring specimen is one of the more difficult dates to acquire, especially in such a great grade. Rather unsurprisingly, exceeded in the PCGS census by just two other pieces." In 1907, Norway obtained a divorce from Sweden and became an independent kingdom under a Danish prince. Even before passing under Swedish rule in 1814, Norway had enjoyed a separate coinage from Denmark. The specimen shown here is from of a type struck 1877-82, 1885-1904 and was accompanied by a silver fifty ore and two kroner of similar design. Many dates are very scarce.
Recorded mintage: 150,000, a fairly common date.
