Stack's Bowers February 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 75154
SB923-75154r.jpg

This specimen was lot 75154 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 6 New Pence, 2022. Llantrisant Mint. Elizabeth II. NGC MS-69 Deep Prooflike. A special emission from the Royal Mint, this silver 6 Pence displays radiant reflectivity and entirely argent surfaces." We don't know the occasion why the mint issued this obsolete denomination, last coined in 1970. Given the proof finish, we presume it went into a set sold for the queen's 70th anniversary of her reign, which anniversary was marked by her death. The catalog numbers below are from Numista.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 2.83 g, 0.925 fine silver, 19.41 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: silver version: S-E1; KM-1369; 0.917 fine gold version: KM 1369a, 0.999 fine gold version KM 1369b.
