Schulman sale 347, lot 432

This specimen was lot 432 in Schulman sale 347 (Amsterdam, April 2015), where it sold for €7,800 (about US$10,040 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "piedfort dukaton of zilveren rijder. 1741. type iib. Ruiter naar rechts met grond onder de voeten van het paard boven provinciewapentje mo: no: aRg: pRo: con - fOE: Belg: com: Zeel burcht. Kz. generaliteitswapen met rozetje boven de kroon, jaartal in cartouche onder het wapen. gladde rand. RR. Schitterend exemplaar met een proofl ike uitstraling, in deze kwaliteit uiterst zeldzaam. Vrijwel FDC. uit veiling Schulman 287 van 18 apr. 1988, no. 172. Very rare piece in this exquisite quality." The SCWC lists double ducatons for 1717 and 1741-57, all rare. Single ducatons (Dav-1836) are fairly common.
