The stress of inflation in the 1970's as Mexico squandered her oil bonanza caused many coin types to come and go. This type was introduced in 1970 and lasted until 1983, when it was superseded by a stainless steel type (KM 496) which lasted until 1987. For 1975, tall and short date varieties exist. Morelos, hero of the war of independence, appears on the obverse.

Recorded mintage: 205,979,000.

Specification: 9 g, copper-nickel, 29 mm diameter, reeded edge.

Catalog reference: KM 460.
