Sincona sale 88, lot 166

This specimen was lot 166 in Sincona sale 88 (Zurich, May 2024), where it sold for 800 CHF (about US$1,057 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Qajar Dynasty, Fath-'Ali Shah, 1212-1250 AH (1797-1834). Toman 1232 AH (1817), Kashan Mint. NGC MS64. Purchased from A. Saeedi, London, in 1984."

This gold denomination was struck at numerous mints during the reign of Fath 'Ali Shah. This style and weight standard is listed in the SCWC as type W and was used AH 1232-1240.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 4.61 g, gold, this specimen 4.57 g.
