This specimen was lot 134 in Sincona sale 88 (Zurich, May 2024), where it sold for 1,300 CHF (about US$1,718 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"IRAN, Qajar Dynasty, Mohammad Hasan Khan, 1163-1172 AH (1750-1759). 1/4 Mohur Ashrafi 1170 AH (1757), Tabriz Mint. Äusserst selten; Extremely rare. NGC MS64. Purchased from Dr. Busso Peus, Frankfurt, in 2006."
Mohammad Hasan Khan is considered the founder of the Qajar dynasty altho he ruled only the region immediately south of the Caspian Sea. The Zands dominated most of central Iran while Azad Khan lurked in Azerbaijan and the Durranis roamed Afghanistan. Most of his coins were issued in the name of Isma'il III; this rupi was struck at Isfahan and Tabriz, AH 1170-1173.
