Sincona sale 88, lot 111

This specimen was lot 111 in Sincona sale 88 (Zurich, May 2024), where it sold for 600 CHF (about US$793 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Zand Dynasty, Karim Khan, 1166-1193 AH (1753-1779). Rupi 1172 AH (1759), Jelou (court mint). Sehr selten; Very rare. NGC AU50. Purchased from Spink & Son, London, in 1982."

Karim Khan was the founder and the only competent ruler of the Zands. This rupi was struck at Isfahan, Kashan, Kirman, Qazvin and Shiraz; Jelou is an unlisted mint.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 11.5 g, silver, this specimen 11.56 g.
