Sincona sale 88, lot 113

This specimen was lot 113 in Sincona sale 88 (Zurich, May 2024), where it sold for 600 CHF (about US$793 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Zand Dynasty, Karim Khan, 1166-1193 AH (1753-1779). 1/4 Mohur Ashrafi 1178 AH (1764), Kashan Mint. Selten; Rare. NGC AU58. Purchased from Heritage, New York, in 2013."

Karim Khan was the founder and the only competent ruler of the Zands. This quarter mohur was struck at Isfahan, Kashan (shown here, known for AH 1178-1192), Khoy, Mazandaran, Qazvin, Rasht, Shiraz, Tehran and Yazd.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 2.75 g, gold, this specimen 2.72 g.
