This specimen was lot 861 in Stephen Album sale 43 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2022), where it sold for $4,200. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MUGHAL: Jahangir, 1605-1628, AR nazarana rupee, Agra, AH1021 year 7, month of Bahman, superb strike on special broad flan, EF, RRR. An inferior specimen, with 2 testmarks and, same month, date, and regnal year, sold in in the Classical Numismatic Gallery Auction 3, Lot 70 (2011)." The Mughal Empire dominated India during the seventeenth century but broke up in the eighteenth century under external attack, Hindu rebellion and civil war. This collapse allowed European colonizers entry into the subcontinent and eventual British control. This type is listed in the SCWC for AH 1020-1021 only, along with a square rupee (KM 144.1). Both are rare.
