This specimen was lot 912 in Stephen Album sale 45 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2023), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MUGHAL: Ahmad Shah Bahadur, 1748-1754, AV mohur, Akbarabad, AH1165 year 5 (recut over 6!), an attractive lustrous mint state example! PCGS graded MS62." The Mughal Empire stretched over most of India in the early eighteenth century and numerous mints struck gold mohurs for the emperor. The Mughal Empire dominated India during the seventeenth century but broke up in the eighteenth century under external attack, Hindu rebellion and civil war. According to the SCWC, this style of mohur was struck at the Akbarabad mint year 2 only. Fifteen mints struck this type.
