This specimen was lot 6464 in Künker sale 336 (Osnabruck, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €750 (about US$982 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BAMBERG, BISTUM, Franz von Hatzfeld, 1633-1642. Dukat 1638, Nürnberg oder Würzburg. GOLD. R Schrötlingsriß, etwas gewellt, vorzüglich. (Germany, bishopric of Bamberg, Francis of Hatzfeld, 1633-42, ducat of 1638, Nurember gor Wurzburg mint. Scarce, some defects, bent, extremely fine.)"
Bamberg, today part of Bavaria, was then part of Franconia and an independent state. Franz von Hatzfeld was also bishop of Wurzburg and resided there. This ducat was struck 1635-40 and is among the more available gold coins from this state.
