Shown is a copper-nickel 400 réis of the United States of Brazil. This is the regular issue, struck 1918-35. Commemorative 400 réis were issued in the 1930's which, not surprisingly, are much easier to find in nice condition than this type. The 400 réis gradually shrank until its abolition in 1942 with the reform of the coinage in that year.

Recorded mintage: 869,000.

Specification: 11.7 g, copper-nickel, 30.2 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 520.
