This specimen is a common date of a type struck at the Paris mint 1970-2001. It superseded a silver five francs of similar diameter, issued 1960-69. Some of the later dates after 1978 are only available from FDC sets. The original Roty design, called La Semeuse, appeared on French half, one and two francs of 1898-1920.
Recorded mintage: 45,079,000.
Specification: 10 g, nickel-plated copper-nickel, 29 mm diameter, after a design by Oscar Roty (1846-1911).
