Prussia 1909 20 mark rev P177-12243.jpg

This specimen was lot 12243 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $3,995. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Prussia. 20 Mark, 1909-J. PCGS PROOF-65 DEEP CAMEO." This specimen is one of a type struck 1890-1913 at Berlin (mintmark "A") and Hamburg (mintmark "J"). Most of the later dates, including this one, are common but the proofs are rare.

Recorded mintage: 350,128 plus a few proofs.

Specification: 7.965 g, 0.900 fine gold, .230 troy oz AGW, lettered edge.

Catalog reference: Fr-3832; KM-521.
