This specimen was part of lot 23049 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), which sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Maundy Set, 1763. George III (1760-1820). 4 pieces in set. A nice group with matched blue-gray color. Clearly a set that sat together undisturbed for a prolonged period of time and as such quite attractive and desirable. PCGS AU-58 (1), MS-61 (1), & AU-55 (2) Secure Holders." This type was struck intermittently 1762-66, 1770-72, 1780-86. Enough were saved that it is today not rare. Unlike the silver penny and tuppence, the threepence survived as a circulating coin until the end of sterling coinage in 1967.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 1.51 g, 0.925 fine silver.
