Great Britain 1719 guinea

Sincona sale 75, lot 192

This specimen was lot 192 in Sincona sale 75 (Zurich, May 2022), where it sold for 12,000 CHF (about US$14,566 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"Grossbritannien | Königreich. George I. 1714-1727. Guinea 1719, London. Fourth laureate head. NGC MS63. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (Magnificent condition.)"

This type was struck 1716-23 with no symbol below the bust. There is a variety (KM 546.2) struck 1721-22 with an elephant below the bust, indicating the use of African gold, which is very rare.
