This specimen is from a type struck 1912-30, 1934-40 for Nicaragua, and was superseded by a design featuring the conquistador Cordoba. The later dates are common. In 1967, the brutal and corrupt Luis Somoza died of a heart attack and was succeeded by his brutal, corrupt and incompetent brother, Anastasio, with baleful consequences for Nicaragua.

Recorded mintage: 800,000.

Specification: 5 g, copper-nickel, 21.2 mm diameter (same standard as a United States nickel).
