This specimen is from a type struck 1912-14 and 1927-36 for Nicaragua, and is among the common dates. The late twenties marked a period of anarchy of Nicaragua, ending in the early thirties when the U.S. connived at the takeover of power by Somoza. The superseding type (KM 17.1) was copper-nickel.
