Goldberg sale 69, lot 4949
Ireland 1930 shilling rev Goldberg 69-4949.jpg

This specimen was lot 4949 in Goldberg sale 69 (Los Angeles, May, 2012), where it sold for $310.50. The catalog description[2] noted, "Ireland. Shilling, 1930. Harp. Reverse: Bull. Toned. Very scarce in top grades. NGC graded MS-63. The Judy Cahn Collection." This type is listed for 1928-37, after which the country name was changed to simply "Eire." This date is scarce but not rare like the 1937. Irish coinage was designed to circulate alongside British coinage which was .500 fine silver in the thirties.

Recorded mintage: 460,000 plus a few proofs.

Specification: 5.65 g, .750 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-6.
