These specimens were issued by the Mexico City mint to honor the 500th anniversary of the refounding of Tenochtitlan as Mexico City. The first example depicts the Aztec Temple of the Sun mirrored by the main cathedral which was built on top of it. The second example shows an Aztec version of the Mexican eagle perched on a cactus. Like many recent issues, they remain unlisted in the SCWC. The oblong patch on the obverse contains microengraving, an anticounterfeiting device.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 15.95 g, bimetallic, aluminum-bronze outer ring with a copper-nickel center, 32 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM unlisted.
