This type was struck 1837-46 at Bogotá and Popayán. This type is common but assayer RU is rare for 1841 ([[Colombia 1841-P VU 16 pesos|assayer VU]] is common). This specimen was lot 309 in Sedwick sale 9 (Winter Park, FL, April 2011), where it sold for $6,325. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "Popayán, Colombia, 16 pesos, 1841RU, encapsulated NGC MS-62, extremely rare. Flashy with prooflike luster (mirror fields), very choice and the only known specimen graded by NGC. RRRR in Sedwick and a coin to watch for the upper limit for this series. Roberto Muhlenkamp 5/77.
