Revision as of 09:29, 4 April 2021
The Franklin half dollar, struck 1948-63, replaced the Walking Liberty half dollar struck 1916-47. No dates are rare, altho the San Francisco mint issues, along with the 1949-D, are slightly scarce. To make it challenging, collectors seek examples struck with "Full Bell Lines" on the reverse. Quality standards were lax in the fifties and many dates are very scarce fully struck. This date is common, altho the "type I" reverse (four full wing feathers) is scarce compared to the "type II" (three full feathers).
Recorded mintage: 7,715,602, including proofs.
Specification: 12.50 g, 0.900 fine silver, 30.6 mm diameter.
Catalog numbers: KM 199.
