This specimen was lot 1754 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 27 (Winter Park, FL, May 2020), where it sold for $178.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Dominican Republic, 1 centavo, 1941, NGC MS 66 RD. Well struck with crisp design elements, bright copper red color throughout. NGC #4770572-037." The specimen shown was struck for the Dominican Republic during the early years of the regime of Rafael Trujillo, among the more brutal of Latin America's long roll of bloodthirsty dictators. Soon after his assassination in 1961, the capital, which he had renamed Ciudad Trujillo, reverted to its former name, Santo Domingo. The type was struck 1937-61; this date is scarce in uncirculated but otherwise common.
