This specimen was part of lot 22123 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), which sold for $352.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA. Six Piece Proof Set, 1959-(M). Melbourne Mint. PCGS PROOF-64 BN to PROOF-66 Secure Holder. KM-61, 56, 57, 58, 59 & 60. Mintage of 1,506 in proof for each denomination. A fully original set in high grade and well matched overall; the copper is brown, and aside from the Threepence (which shows attractive smokey tone on the obverse), the silver denominations all display mostly white surfaces with traces of tone along the edges. Grades are as follows: 64-BN, 64-BN, 66, 65, 66, and 64 respectively, and all with the proof designation. An always in demand date in proof, especially the copper, and with a current catalog of $1,700 in Krause." The type was issued 1955-63 from Melbourne and all dates are common with the 1956 being slightly scarce.
Recorded mintage: 11,728,000 plus 1,506 proofs.
